Learning from the world around us

A 40-day reflection series for individuals, groups, and churches

This Lenten Journey invites you on a journey of looking, listening, and learning from the world around us.

Through Scripture, global voices, and stories from diverse landscapes, it offers Lent not as a season of heaviness, but as a path of honesty, healing, and renewed hope.

Wherever we live – in cities or villages, along coasts or mountain paths – we share the same longing: to live truthfully, to mend what has been harmed, and to become people of peace.

With many thanks to our Franciscan friends who have been partners in preparing the Lent materials.

This Lent Series Offers:

  • Daily reflections rooted in the Gospel of John
  • Insights from Christians across Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania, and the Americas
  • Real-life stories from communities facing conflict, climate pressures, cultural loss, and courageous rebuilding
  • Themes of penance, peace, and reconciliation explored with clarity and compassion
  • Prayers, journalling prompts, and simple actions for personal and communal growth
  • A reflective, hope-filled, globally connected way to walk through Lent

Why “Landscapes”?

Entering Lent can feel like stepping into shifting light – as when standing before Monet’s Water Lilies, where the longer you look, the more is revealed.

Lent invites this same posture: to pause, to look again, and to allow our seeing to change us.

We travel through deserts, forests, coastlines, city streets, and places marked by conflict or renewal.
These landscapes become teachers, helping us reflect on:

  • Penance as truthful seeing
  • Peace as attentive presence
  • Reconciliation as restored dignity and relationship

A Global Conversation

Contributors from five continents share wisdom shaped by land, culture, history, and hope:

  • Africa: resilience, truth-telling, courage to rebuild
  • Asia-Pacific: harmony, humility, community
  • Europe: memory, peacebuilding, ecological care
  • Americas: justice, liberation, communal strength
  • Oceania: deep connections to land, water, and Indigenous wisdom

Together, these voices help us see the Gospel through many eyes — and recognise our shared humanity across borders and cultures.

A Journey of Hope

Lent 2026 is an invitation to return: to truth, compassion, community, and to the God who meets us in every landscape.

We would like to invite you to walk gently, listen deeply, and rediscover the quiet, persistent love that can still restore the world.

Who Is This For?
